Local Kids Lemon"aid" Stand Raises Big Bucks for Nepal Relief Effort & Clara Bergen Memorial Fund

Tyler & McKenzie Hoffman, ages 5 and 3, raised more than $1,000 dollars with their lemon"aid" & cookies stand in the San Tan Ranch community in Gilbert yesterday.

The money was initially slated to all be donated to the American Red Cross Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund; however, in light of the tragic death of seven year old Clara Bergen yesterday, a Coronado Elementary School student, the money will be divided with half being donated to the Nepal relief effort and the other half going to the Clara Bergen Memorial Fund.

Thanks to the children's hard work and a generous donation by A Child's Place at The Ranches business owner and fellow Higley school board member, Kristina Reese, the children raised a substantial sum for each cause.

"We are so proud of the effort that McKenzie and Tyler put in to serving others," said Republican Party of Gilbert and Queen Creek Vice Chairman and Higley school board member Jake Hoffman. "It is incredible to live in communities like the Higley school district and the Town of Gilbert and see the way people rally together in times of great need. My wife and I thank God every day for the blessing of being able to raise our kids in the greatest country on earth and for the opportunity to live out the values and beliefs that we hold dear without fear of persecution. It is truly an honor to serve the Higley community and defend the principles and values that make us strong."

AZ Family 3TV featured the children's efforts on the evening news.
