22 Reasons Gilbert is One of the Best Places to Live in America!

22 Reasons Gilbert is One of the Best Places to Live in America!

2014-10-22
| by Gilbert Daily PRSS | Posted in Gilbert News

Recently Time’s Money Magazine ranked Gilbert, Arizona as the 22nd Best Place to Live in America. Their article sighted some of the reasons our town made the list but Gilbert Daily PRSS thought that we would create our own list of reasons why Gilbert, Arizona is one of the Best Places to Live in America.

Patriotism

Residents of Gilbert are not just bound together by pride for their town; but deeply held patriotism and love of country. These values are reflected within established traditions such as Constitution Week and emerging ones such as Operation Welcome Home.

Parks

Gilbert’s beautiful parks provide families a place to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, make new friends or just play. Freestone, Crossroads and Discovery parks are among the many noteworthy parks in Gilbert while Cosmo Dog Park regularly shows up on Top 10 lists of dog parks in America. Our bird sanctuary, Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, is considered THE best destination in the southwest for bird watching.

Something’s Always Brewing

More than just a place to grab a cup of coffee, coffee shops are now a meeting place, a creative space, and a destination. From the landmark Bergies located in the Heritage District to The Coffee Shop at Agritopia, Higher Grounds Roastery, Coffee Rush and Bold Roost, these coffee shops each provide a unique experience.

Oh, That OTHER Brew Too

Driving the local beer revolution is AZ Wilderness Brewery, Gilbert’s first local brewery, chosen in 2013 as the #1 New Brewery In the World. The Gilbert beer scene has grown recently with the addition of World of Beers and House of Brews, much to the delight of local beer enthusiasts.

Diverse Neighborhoods

Living in Gilbert means having the opportunity to create the lifestyle that best suits you and your family. While the Town is rich with beautiful neighborhoods, residents also have the option to enjoy golf course, lakefront, equestrian, or desert living neighborhoods as well. There are also many outstanding senior living options, luxury apartment complexes, and farm properties.

Education

Gilbert offers a rich variety of quality public, charter, arts, and faith-based schools that continue to consistently demonstrate high levels of achievement. Looking to the future, Gilbert will soon be home to St. Xavier University the Town’s first higher education institution.

Mayor John Lewis (Tie)

Mayor Lewis was elected in 2009 after serving as Co-Chairman of the Town's Diversity Task Force, Organizer of Community Interfaith Activities, and Founder of Gilbert's Constitution Week. Hard-working and approachable, Mayor Lewis is a tremendous ambassador for our town.

Patrick Banger (Tie)

Town Manager Patrick Banger is the right man for the job. He is a visionary that has provided leadership that all residents have benefited from. Watch Mr. Banger’s monthly video updates as he keeps residents aware of the inner-workings of our town as well as the latest happenings.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

No longer just an alternative to cooking at home, restaurants have become a form of entertainment and often represent an entire lifestyle. Many cities are defined by the variety of dining options available and Gilbert enjoys a constant influx of many creative chefs and their teams of managers and staff. With too many noteworthy destinations to mention them all, everyone should make a point to try out the many one-of-a-kind places to get a true taste of Gilbert.

Community Pride

The people of Gilbert take pride in their community. So many residents promote their city and neighborhood on social media and encourage their friends and family to relocate here. Since the best way to increase property values is to make other people want to live there, this pride benefits us all.

Wellness

Gilbert is home to Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center and now the Southeast Veterans Affairs Health Care Clinic. The community is active, focused on wellness and committed to living a healthy lifestyles. Residents ride bikes, hike and run along trails and in the parks. We are even home to the first drive thru Salad and Go restaurant!

Family Entertainment

Families have a lot of options for spending quality time together in Gilbert. Besides two multiplex movie theaters, Gilbert currently has one live performing arts theater, two bowling alleys, an ice rink, soccer fields that stretch on for miles, and baseball fields that some people only dream of.

Community Markets

Saturday mornings attract people from all over the valley to the Gilbert Farmers Market where local farmers and food vendors connect with the community. Artisans gather adjacently on 15 of those Saturdays for the Gilbert Art Walk. On Wednesdays, it’s the Farmstand & Foodtrucks at Agritopia and on Friday nights its the Gilbert Food Truck Food Court in the Heritage District.

Land of Opportunity

A big percent of Gilbert land remains undeveloped. Our current population is at 220,000 with estimates of it increasing by another 90,000 within the next 15 years. Business owners, real estate developers, and investors have set their sights on Gilbert as a place to bring their money and talent.

Technology Growth

Gilbert has attracted businesses of diverse industries including bioscience, aviation, aerospace, education, and medical. Our once predominantly farming community has exploded in high-tech high wage jobs making its future bright – not just to live and play – but to work as well.

The Youth

The young people in Gilbert are active, motivated and, unlike in many other cities, staying out of trouble. Some have excelled in scholastics, arts, and sports. Some are active in scouting, volunteering, or even working at their first jobs. Some are still finding their way. They are the future of Gilbert and every day we hear another story that makes us proud as a community because of something a young person has done. This list would be pointless without them.

Gilbert Events Calendar

From the Parks and Recreation department to the private sector, Gilbert enjoys fantastic year-round events designed to bring the community together while building traditions for our town. Some of these are the Global Village Festival, the Gilbert Days Parade, the Arizona Balloon Classic, the Downtown Concert Series, BARKtoberfest and many more can't-miss events.

In God We Trust

Gilbert has a diverse faith community with over 70 houses of worship including the landmark LDS Temple that attracts visitors from around the world. In Gilbert, however, it's not about the number of buildings but rather the connection that the local clergy have with the people they serve. It is no wonder that in 2013 Gilbert was ranked the second Most Saintly City in America.

Safety

Gilbert enjoys being the 2nd safest big city in America. Who do we thank for that? Besides our conscientious citizens, much of the credit goes to Gilbert Police Chief Tim Dorn and his staff maintaining law & order with one of the lowest officer per resident ratios for a town or city of Gilbert’s size.

Joe Johnston

Joe Johnston is an innovator and visionary. For many years, when people thought of Gilbert, they thought of Joe's Real BBQ. Now they also think of Liberty Market, Agritopia, Generations at Agritopia, and Joe’s Farm Grill. We will all continue to benefit from his vision and reap the benefits of his labor for generations to come. "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." Matthew 7:20

Our Argi Families

Looking at Gilbert now, it may be hard to believe that only 30 years ago most of the land in Gilbert was owned by a few families that farmed land that had been in their families for decades. These families have built strong roots in the community that have grounded Gilbert’s rapid growth in the measured wisdom of values and heritage. Like the crops they have sewn, they have taken the time to nurture the process of allowing their land to be developed. Our town will continue to become more sophisticated, but we should all pay tribute to the founding families that have instilled Gilbert’s legacy of family, faith, and community.

You

The people of Gilbert are what define it. While a small fraction of residents can claim to have been born here or lived here 20 years ago, the remaining chose to leave their former location to be a part of Gilbert. It is you as residents who make Gilbert one of the Best Places in America to Live.
